Quick Tips Video: How to Improve Your Email Open Rates

Every now and then, we like to try something new for our readers and viewers. That’s why we’re testing a slightly different format of Quick Tips with… Quick Tips LIVE!

Last Friday, we held a Google Hangout with our fans and discussed tactics for improving email open rates. Bummed you missed it? Watch the recording below!

Since we didn’t get to everyone’s questions (it is Quick Tips, after all), we wanted to make sure we addressed all of your open rate concerns. Here was a question (and our response) from our viewer Amy:

Any tips for copy on landing or thank you pages for making sure people check their promotions/spam folders without saying that?

I recommend being completely transparent in communicating this with your new subscribers. Being honest with your audience isn’t a bad thing; in fact, many people include this information in their landing pages. In addition to thanking them for signing up to your list, include a line of text that simply reads “To make sure you are subscribed to our emails, be sure to check your spam or promotions folder for our confirmation message.”

    Thanks for your helpful video on improving your email open rates. Much appreciated.

    I think you’re right when you say it’s important to tell your subscriber what’s in your email.

    I communicate with my customers by email and when I use the word “Your” in my subject line, my open rates improve dramatically.

    The reason why I think this happens is in the tip below.

    So here’s the tip I use to get more of my emails opened. It could help your readers too.

    Subject Line: Your Powerful Subject Line (tip)

    Here’s a simple way to increase the chances of getting your emails opened.

    When you write your next email message try to put the word “Your” in the subject line like you would if you were writing an headline for an advertisement you were creating.

    When you use the word “your” in a subject line you are indicating to the person receiving the email that something belongs or relates to them in some way.

    They will then more likely open your email to get what is “theirs” or to find out why it relates to them (curiosity)

    See how I’ve done this in the subject line for this message.

    Hi, thanks for that great post. The problem is that, although my company is a completely legal and honest, its new. And people generally dont choose my mails to open.
